“The interpretation of dreams is the royal road to a knowledge of the unconscious activities of the mind” - Sigmund Freud
A universal phenomenon, dreams have provided a source of inspiration for mankind. Although many have declared their ideas and interpretations of why we dream, there is still no definitive answer, and artists and scientists alike continue to explore the nature of our dreams.
The Cob Gallery and Guts for Garters are excited to announce their next collaboration, ‘In Dreams’. A group show of the most exciting emergent artists, alongside an archive of established works; magnifying dreams through an expansive variety of medias. Piecing together lesser-known perspectives on the nature of dreams and the visual language they offer, Cob & Guts Productions offers a new survey – an atlas of dreams.
The gallery will be transformed into an immersive installation, a labyrinth within which the viewer will be guided through different sleep states and the act of dreaming. Alongside the gallery installation, a pop-up shop on Camden high street will explore the effect of lucid dreaming, heightened by hallucinogenics on the Beat generation, and new approaches to visual media. Visitors will also have the option to be involved in sleep experiments, and public events.
