Still, Life. is a cookbook by British artist Joe Sweeney that blend his personal response to the restrictions of the 2020 pandemic with the tradition of still life in art.
Born from Sweeney’s experience of domestic isolation, Still, Life. presents simple recipes using ingredients sourced from local markets, encouraging both culinary self-sufficiency and a mindful alternative to takeaway culture.
The cookbook features Sweeney’s candid iPhone photography of handwritten signs left by absent shopkeepers in Brixton—forming a photographic ballad to London under lockdown—alongside medium format photographic still-life compositions featuring his ceramic crockery series.
